The Boxtrolls is transmisogynist

So I went to see The Boxtrolls today having been very excited about all of the publicity, the general theme of the film, and all of the posters I saw of what appeared to be same gender families.

I left the cinema in tears because of it. It’s very transmisogynist. I do not advise anyone, especially trans women, to see this film. I’ll explain why below.

TW FOR THE CONTENT BELOW. It contains spoilers and descriptions of transmisogyny.

General Dio is a big baby and I love him.

It’s kind of odd that there’s yet another Namakelder appearance next episode, Hosshiwa has been neglected for some time. I guess they want to set up another sweets vs sweets battle with her and Honey while keeping Hime in a fight against her earliest enemy?

You know I really like little animation details to a non-human character where something that defines them as non-human is incorporated into how the character moves and acts.

Like here, Nurezoukin is a dustcloth that has come to life as a spirit. They walk like a caterpillar and really love to clean. What I really liked was a scene where Nurezoukin started to cry.

They start to wring themself out because there’s water inside of them, instead of the animators drawing them using their little arms to wipe away the tears, which would have been a very human-like way to do it. Super cute detail!

Help I want to kiss a fictional dustcloth spirit monster

I’m almost angry at how cute this dustcloth is

ok Numata is a cis guy also he’s panromantic and homosexual. I ship him with Yata and Karatsu and Kere Ellis. Sometimes I feel like I ship him more with Kere Ellis than with Yata and Karatsu. Yes, I can see you side-eyeing me.

I love his friendship with all of the Delivery Service members, I think my favourite friendship is with Karatsu? But I also like when the girls boss him around I would actually really like to see more of his interaction with Makino. And of course I love it when he chases Yata and Kere Ellis around and in the end does care for them both.
